Fresh steelhead chances for late winter, early spring usually means high and stained and cold water challenging drifts. Downstream fast water drifts and all the way to the downstream flat water has been quietly productive at times too, esp if youre there intercepting a pod of fresh fish moving thru. A spate of water there too might drop back fish to downstream spots where guys are drifting and also bring on the last of the fresh run fish. Spoons chipped in but flasher/fly and meat rigs were good. Likewise find Kings steaming up the Oak too with good slightly stained flows all around. On Saturday there were bass boats fishing on the south side next to the Port Gibson bridge. Shouldnt be any serious icing in yet but there could be some bank ice or chunky flows. Canal water is still high from our rainfall. The bite was not hot and heavy but we picked at a few steelhead as we approached the 30 line. Steelhead have been there and more likely to trickle in. The next significant rise in flows may bring on some fresh steelhead action thru Mar. Next be prepared to troll j-plugs around the 3 piers in 5-20 feet of water.
